Imphal: Works minister Thongam Biswajit Singh laid the foundation stone for construction of Akham Bridge in the presence of education minister S. Rajen Singh at Akham under Lamsang Assembly Constituency.
“The construction of the bridge, to be built over the Nambul River, will be carried out using new technology. The bridge will be ‘Composite Bridge Design’ of nearly 20 metres in length and 5.5 metres in width. The bridge will help in connecting the adjoining areas as such Lambal, Lamsang, Heibongpokpi, Lamlongei and Singda to Lamdeng Khonghampat,” Biswajit said.
The bridge once completed will enhance the agricultural and economic activity lessening the distance between the neighbouring villages. It will also help in overcoming the hardships faced by the localities while commuting, he added.
He assured that efforts will put in so that the construction of the bridge can be completed on time and handed over to the people.
The minister was also accompanied by the chief engineer Kh. Temba Singh and engineers from the bridge division.
