Assam Rifles organises ex-servicemen rally

Imphal: ​A rally for Assam Rifles ex-servicemen of Manipur was organised under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) at Khuman Lampak Stadium on Sunday.

​The rally was elicited participation by more than 250 ex-servicemen from all the districts of the state including World War II veterans, Veer Naris and their dependents.

It was conducted following Covid protocols.

​The aim of the rally, organised under the theme ‘We Connect – We Care’, was to connect with the veterans, strengthen the bond with them and acknowledge the contribution made by them to the nation through their combat service.

​The occasion was graced by Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Bar to Sena Medal, DG Assam Rifles as the chief guest. Maj Gen Alok Naresh, IG AR (S), Lt Gen K Himalaya Singh (Veteran), Lt Gen L Nishikanta Singh (Veteran) and other Assam Rifles officials were also in attendance .

​Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Bar to Sena Medal, Director General Assam Rifles at the outset welcomed the august gathering and encouraged all the stakeholders to render maximum support to the veterans who had dedicated the prime years of their lives to protect the nation.

​Addressing the ex-servicemen during the rally, Director General Assam Rifles highlighted the contribution of Assam Rifles and various achievements of the oldest paramilitary force of India. The general officer also highlighted various new initiatives launched under the theme of ‘We Connect – We Care’, by the Assam Rifles for the welfare of its veterans. The director general lauded the contribution of the veterans and the serving soldiers of Manipur, who have immensely contributed as Assam Rifles soldiers, for the security and prosperity of India.

​The director general enlightened the veterans about various beneficiary schemes including the recruitment rallies, sports quota for recruitment in Assam Rifles, reservation in various educational institutes/ hostels for their wards and dependents, and extension of Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) to Assam Rifles veterans. He also used the platform to thank the state government, civil officials and all the media persons for their cooperation for making it a grand success.

​As part of the event, a felicitation ceremony was organised in which the diector general felicitated Veer Naris, World War II veterans and other ex-servicemen. An Open Adalat was also conducted by the representatives of Headquarter Director General Assam Rifles, Shillong to provide a platform for registration of grievances and their immediate redressal.

​Online as well as on the spot solutions of various problems and grievances were rendered to the ex-servicemen during the rally.

​As part of the rally, a medical and dental camp was also organised. Doctors from Assam Rifles alongwith specialist doctors from various civil hospitals and the state government medical department provided consultation and free medicines to the veterans and their dependants including Covid precautionary items. A number of stalls were also setup during the rally to provide facilities including canteen.

Stores department, banking facilities, Aadhar and Permanent Account Number (PAN) card registration etc to the veterans and their dependants.

​The event was followed by lunch for all the participants. The tunes played by the Assam Rifles band brought back many memories of old times. The ex­- servicemen expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the director general Assam Rifles for organising the event.
