CBI raids custom superintendent residence, recovers assets over Rs 25 lakh

Imphal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of superintendent of customs, Imphal, Wahengbam Hemantakishwar in Imphal on Thursday and recovered assets that valued over Rs 25 lakh.

CBI in a press release said it has registered a case against a superintendent of customs, Imphal on the allegations of possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 56.75 lakh (approximately). It was alleged that the accused during the period January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020, had acquired huge assets both movable and immovable in his name and in the name of his family members which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

“Searches were conducted today at the premises of the accused and his relative at Imphal which led to recovery of cash of Rs 10.59 Lakh (approximately); gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh (approximately), four bank accounts; 15 LIC Policies and other incriminating documents including purchase of various properties including (homestead land/paddy lands) and investments in financial institutions etc,” the statement said.
Investigation continued till the filing of this report.
