US Consul General opens Queer Games North East

Imphal: U.S Consul General Kolkata, Patti Hoffman opened Queer Games North East 2021, a diverse platform advocating for LGBTQI+ community, at Kwakeithel Myaikobi PCC ground, here on Friday.

It was the 4th edition of queer games organised by Ya_All, The Youth Network.

The queer games was kicked off in presence of director of Division of Global HIV and TB, CDC India, Dr Melissa Nyendak; director of Prevention I-Tech India, G.S Shreenivas; and transgender activist Aher Abheena.

The 2-day sports event is supported by U.S Consulate General Kolkata, American Centre, and SAYAN and co-sponsored by Durex and The Birds and Bees Talk.

Founder and chief functionary officer of Ya_All, Sadam Hanjabam said “The Transgender football team is the first of its kind in India and South Asia. The team was launched in 2020 to advocate for inclusion in sports and providing a platform for the LGBTQI+ community.”

The delegates visited the workspace of Ya_All and Paomi Post and held an interactive session with the players and the staff.

A torch rally led by Jenny Khurai was scheduled to flag off on Saturday morning at Kwakeithel Bazar. A transgender exhibition football match will be showcased.
