ADC election to hold on June 25 or ahead

Imphal: Representatives of All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur and Demand Committee for Creation of ADCs regarding election of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) and representatives of Manipur government held a meeting over the demand for holding of elections on Monday.

The government was represented by ministers Losii Dikho and Vunglagln Salto and chairman Hill Area Committee K. Leishiyo and officials of the department of tribal affairs and hills.

Subsequent to the meeting and after detailed discussion with the relevant government departments, it has been decided to conduct the ADC elections on or before June 25, additional chief secretary (TA and H) Letkhogin Haokip said.

The extended term of the incumbent ADCs expired in November last year. There are 24 District

Council Constituencies in each of the six ADCs and altogether 144 members have to be elected.

State Cabinet meeting held on March 27 approved to conduct ADC elections in the Manipur including four new districts- Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl and Noney.
