Imphal: Employees of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) have called off its agitation and resumed to their normal duties immediately after Manipur government agreed to revise pay as per demanded.
Representatives of three umbrella organisations –Teachers’ Association, JNIMS, Trained Nurses Association (TNA), JNIMS and Association for all Non-teaching staffs, JNIMS on Sunday inked a memorandum with government representatives.
According to the memorandum a meeting was held on April 9 in the office of chief Secretary, with representative of the three JNIMS employees’ bodies on the issue of implementation of 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations. It was noted that state government had already committed to revise the pay for JNIMS employees as per the pay commission with immediate effect from April 1. Further deliberations were undertaken, including on April 11, under the chairmanship of the adviser (health) to chief minister.
Finally, considering the special duties performed by the doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS, especially in facing the COVID-I9 pandemic, the state government agrees to implement 7th Pay Commission in JNIMS with notional effect from January1, 2016 as special case, the agreement mentioned. It was agreed that implementation will start with effect from April 1, this year.
This rare exception is made only in the wake of duties performed in tackling Covid-19 pandemic requiring extra hours of work and uninterrupted services, often at risk to personal life, the memorandum said. This may not be cited as a precedent by other autonomous bodies, societies, PSUs under government of Manipur.
The FD (finance department) also agreed to consider the request of TNA for adoption of MACP and Uniform Allowance on priority. With these agreements, the employees’ bodies agreed to call off the protest with Immediate effect. Demanding for the pay revision employees had started submitting mass resignation and patients started sifting from the hospital on Saturday.
