Imphal: In a continued pursuance and commitment towards improvement of general well-being in remote villages of Ukhrul district, Somsai Batallion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of headquarters IGAR (South) conducted a Walkathon at Awangkasom village on Sunday.
To promote government initiative under “Fit India Movement (FIM)” and health awareness amongst the troops of Assam Rifles and villagers of border villages the 5 kilometer walkathon was conducted.
An approximate strength of 150 villagers along with troops of Assam Rifles participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm, the Assam Rifles said.
It was conducted for all age groups including ladies and children. All Covid-19 related precautions were deliberately followed during the conduct of the event. The walkathon culminated with tea and refreshments with the villagers. The villagers acclaimed the efforts of Assam Rifles with the phrase “Assam Rifles a true friend of hill people”, the Assam Rifles said.
