Armed miscreants shot 4 trucks’ tanks, tyres along NH-37, drivers tends to cease service

Imphal: Four trucks heading towards Imphal from Jiribam were shot at the tanks and tyres by unknown armed miscreants at Kaiphundai under the jurisdiction of Tousem police station on Friday morning.

Personnel of 37 Assam Rifles, Jiribam police commando and Tousem police station conducted cordon and search operation in the area.

The operation was conducted till 3 pm however no person was detained in connection with the incident, police said.

According to police the drivers of the trucks loaded with cements bearing registration number NL01AD-8968; MN06T-0156; NL01G- 4335 and NL01L-2699 were instructed to get down from the truck and shot some rounds at the tyres and oil tank of the trucks.

The trucks were recovered and kept at 37 Assam Rifles camp located at New Kaiphundai.
After the incident other goods trucks continued their service as usual, police said.
The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers’ and Motor Workers’ Union general secretary Anil Maimom urged Manipur government to depute highway protection force for the safety of drivers.

He strongly condemned the incident of threatening the drivers.

The union warned the government that it will take up agitation like cease work strike along the national highways may start, he added.

Saying that highway truckers have been rendering service for the welfare of Manipur people appealed not to harass highway truck drivers who are earning their living on roads.
