Social gatherings banned, night curfew lengthened

Imphal: Night curfew will be imposed during 7 pm to 5 am every day, all gatherings are banned with immediate effect, except unavoidable gatherings for funerals, marriages, time-bound religious rituals and ceremonies, says Manipur government.

Religious gathering will also be strictly limited to 20 persons. Covid appropriate behaviour, including wearing of face mask, is to be ensured by the host/organizer. Violators are to be penalized promptly, Manipur home department said in a order issued on Sunday.

The government order was issued after holding a meeting of the State Consultative Committee for Covid-19 chaired by chief minister N. Biren Singh, which discussed the actions required to be taken in the wake of the rapid increase of covid-19 cases in the country.

Media persons and those engaged in telecom services and time-bound project constructions would also be exempted, in addition to categories exempted earlier, the order said.

All shops and markets should ensure wearing of face mask and take steps to prevent crowding in their shops, market areas, it added.

Crowding in tourist spots, historical sites, etc are to be prevented by the department or agency concerned and venue owners. DCs to supervise and monitor all such locations within their jurisdiction and penalize violators, the order said.

Manipur home department has also instructed all deputy commissioners to issue orders for imposing Curfew under CrPC for their district and enforce the order strictly.

DCs and state police should enforce Covid Appropriate Behaviour and impose penalties on violators, especially persons who come out in public places without wearing face mask, the order said.
