‘Advanced technique should be employed for self-reliant fish products’

Imphal: New and advanced technique of fish farming should be employed for enabling production of self-reliant fish products in Manipur, fishery minister Rajen said on Wednesday.

The minister made the remak during a discussion regarding the Loktak Livelihood Mission held at the mini conference hall of the minister.

A power-point presentation on the mission was also conducted.

Prospects, features and shortfalls of fish farming around Loktak lake was minutely discussed.

Rajen said fishery department needs to procure a mobile lab so that the fish related problems of the farmers can be addressed.

He instructed officials to process for procurement of a mobile lab for the department.

Commissioner, fishery M. Harekrishna said there is a need for redefining fishery department and its activities. He stressed on the present status of the fish farmers and fish farms particularly of the state.

The prospects of Cage-farming and Pane-farming, Installation of cold storage, prospects of local fish farming, marketing policy, yielding of fish production, community Involvement etc. were highlighted in the discussion.
