48 hours bandh affects normalcy in Gram Panchayat areas in Manipur

Imphal: The 48 hours bandh imposed by members of Panchayati Raj institution of six districts and MGNREGS job card holders has affected normalcy in Gram Panchayat areas in Manipur valley.

The protesters imposed total shut down demanding release of wages of job card holders, release of second installment funds of 15th Finance Commission monthly salary from October 2019 to till March and implementation of national electronic fund management system.
The shutdown began on Tuesday midnight.

Roads in Gram Panchayat areas wore a deserted look and shops were shut down while as the protestors blocked roads by pilings logs and benches, and burning tyres.

The protestors warned to intensify their agitation until their demands are fulfilled.

A female nurse who was reportedly travelling on a Covid vaccination duty was brutally assaulted by bandh supporters along the Imphal-Churachandpur road in Bishnupur district on Thursday. Her brother who was driving the car in which she was traveling was also beaten up and the car was damaged by the agitators.

She was reportedly permitted free passage by agitators till Kwakta from Keinou. The bandh supporters at Khudekpi issued her a vehicle pass for free passage. However, the bandh supporters at Phoujagai restricted them to proceed further.

With the help of concerned department officials and civil society and student organisations they reached the Churachandpur CMO office.
