2 cops suspended for drug trafficking

Imphal: Two Manipur cops, who were detained by Kyamgei Mamang Leikai people near Khagemba Macha Ebungo Lai Haraopham for drug trafficking, were arrested and suspended on Saturday.

The suspended cops were Nameirakpam Leimaba Meeitei, 30, son of N. Imochouba Meitei of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai and Mainam Raju Singh, 36, son of late M. Chaoba Singh of Singjamei Makha Leikai Khongnang Pheidekpi.

The locals informed of detaining few drug traffickers to the police at about 1 pm. When a team of Irilbung police station rushed to the location, they were found to be police personnel presently serving in the Manipur Police department as constable and rifleman respectively.

They revealed the identity of two other drug dealers who were Md. Salam, son of Md. Kaher of Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai and Abdul Khalique, son of Md. Abdul Ghani of Kyamgei Awang Leikai, Imphal East. Both of them were also arrested.

Police recovered eight vials and seven vials of suspected Heroin powder from Leimaba and Raju respectively, which weigh about 13 gram approximately.

From the possession of Salam, suspected Heroin powder of 10 grams contained in a reddish plastic bottle, 16 empty vials and a sum of Rs 27, 400 (as sales proceed) were seized. Seven grams of suspected Heroin powder contained in a transparent plastic bottle along with six empty vials were seized from the possession of Abdul.

A case has been registered at Irilbung Police station under NDPS Act, superintendent of police, Imphal East, said.
