Imphal: Government of India has allocated 93007.95 quintals of rice per month for May-June, 2021, to Manipur under Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) – Phase-III.
The allocated rice is to provide additional rice @ 5 kg per person per month of free of cost for a period of two months to all the beneficiaries covered under NFSA (AAY and PHH) over and above NFSA allocation as per provisions of NFSA to ameliorate the hardships faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by Covid Pandemic.
This scheme will benefit all the ration card holders and enlisted members. Persons not possessing a valid ration card of NFSA will not be covered as per the guidelines of the scheme, .
“The allocation of rice will be over and above the normal NFSA allocation,” director, consumer affairs, food and public distribution, Ranjan Yumnam said in statement released on Sunday.
The allocation for Jiribam is 1509.50 qtl, Kangpokpi 5346.05 qtl, Bishnupur 9731.50 qtl, Tengnoupal 1527.45 qtl, Chandel 2110.20 qtl, Pherzawl 1105.10 qtl, Churachandpur 5814 qtl, Imphal East 14334.70 qtl, Imphal West 19768.90 qtl, Senapati 4752.20 qtl, Noney 954.85 qtl, Tamenglong 3333.80 qtl, Kakching 6512.95 qtl, Thoubal 11291.85 qtl, Ukhrul 3819.30 qtl and for Kamjong the allocation is 1095.60 qtl.
The allocated quantity will be lifted by the district authorities through transport contractors appointed by the department who shall be solely responsible for the safe transportation of the entire quantity of PMGKAY rice from FCI depot to respective fair price shops of concerned district of Manipur within the validity period whichever is earlier, the statement mentioned.
It said FPS owners may appropriately draw out distribution plans at the local and ground level in consultation with beneficiaries for distribution of rice under supervision of the DSOs concerned. Social distancing norms i.e., at least six feet’s distance between beneficiaries should be maintained during the distribution process of PMGKAY and NFSA. The beneficiaries should be encouraged to wear masks and use hand sanitizers.
To ensure uninterrupted supply of foodgrains to the PDS beneficiaries, all fair price shops will distribute the foodgrains to the beneficiaries on all seven days of the week between 9 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm in larger public interest, it added.
Under the existing system, DSOs and civil supply inspectors of the department shall conduct regular inspections of the shops to ensure that FPSs under their respective jurisdiction are operating strictly.
All DSOs/ADs of the department shall take action against defaulting fair price shops in accordance with rules in place. Further DSOs have been instructed to submit a daily monitoring report on lifting and distribution of NFSA and PMGKAY rice to the director.
