Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded the state government to immediately release a sum of Rs 1 crore each to every MLA to economically empower them in fighting Covid second wave in the state.
The demand was made in an online press conference addressed by MLA K. Meghachandra on Tuesday.
With the rising death rates due to covid in the state, Congress party gave demands and suggestions to the ‘BJP government’ to act swiftly to save lives of the people in the state.
All district hospitals must be made a hospital with a minimum of 100 beds, fully equipped with ventilators, ICU and all necessary facilities to fight covid in all the districts of the state immediately, MPCC demanded.
It also urged for permanent recruitment of doctors and nurses by the state government to enable filling up of the shortage of doctors, nurses and staff in health department and district hospitals to fight covid.
It suggested to take up immediate step to increase the percentage of vaccinated people in the state, by increasing vaccinations per day and vaccinating the persons between 18 and 44 of age.
Ambulance vehicles must be increased in every district to combat covid. ICU beds, oxygen beds, beds well equipped with ventilator must be increased to reduce death rate in the state, it suggested.
Daily positivity rate and death rate must be shared for all the districts and the overall rates for the state by the government, it added.
The cost of hospitalisation and treatment at private hospitals due to covid must be fixed and regulated by the government so that the poor covid patients do not suffer. Covid management systems must be de-centralised instead of being centralised and controlled by one committee or limited bureaucracy, MPCC suggested.
The results of the genome sequencing of the covid samples from Manipur must be officially released so that the types of variants of Covid can be known, it added.
Groceries, food delivery systems, online food delivery and home delivery system must be exempted from restrictions under curfew or containment notification by the government. Food supplies to the covid patients, food supplies to the poor and the needy people during curfew must not be stopped by the government during curfew. Banks must be exempted from restrictions under curfew so that the ATMs have cash for the people to use for treatment and other essential purposes. Relief and immediate help must be extended to the family of Covid deaths, MPCC demanded.
The sum of Rs 29.2 crore, which was already released by the Centre to Manipur, meant to be used in fighting Covid at panchayats must reach villagers on time. The government must release Rs 485.5 crore, which was already released from the centre to the state, for MGNREGA to the villagers during covid pandemic immediately, it demanded.
