Assam Rifles constructs rain water reservoir, upgrades primary schools, organise Covid-19 awareness drive

Imphal: Assam Rifles has constructed a rain reservoir at Sajik Tampak, Chandel district, upgraded primary schools in Chandel, organise Covid-19 awareness drive in Churachandpur.

Sajik Tampak Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) constructed the Rain Water Harvesting Reservoir on Tuesday.

​To encourage the water conservation (both rainwater and groundwater), the reservoir was created by excavating wasteland in the vicinity of Sajik Tampak. The capacity of the rain water reservoir is 900 cubic meters with a storage capacity of nine lakh litres. The aim of construction of the Rainwater harvesting reservoir is to alleviate water scarcity being faced by the local residents of Sajik Tampak village and raising the local water table levels during monsoon season. This initiative will also serve as a source of employment for the locals.

​This initiative is in cognizance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, Jal Jeevan Mission and is an important component of efforts of the state Government effort to achieve the goal of ‘Har Ghar Jal’ by 2024, the Assam Rifles said.

​Sehlon Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) upgraded the two primary schools under Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme 2020-21 on Wednesday.

​The primary schools in remote locations of New Samtal and Tuitong providing basic education to 197 children lacked basic infrastructure.

​On the request of the village authorities, the Assam Rifles undertook upgradation of the schools to encompass replacing the dilapidated roof structure as well as provision of basic furniture and playground equipment.

​The projects were undertaken under the Assam Rifles Civic Action programme, the Assam Rifles said.

The Covid-19 Awareness and Appropriate Behaviour Drive was organised at Kangvai village on Wednesday by
Loktak Battalion Assam Rifles.

​The awareness drive included a Road Show on resurgence of Covid-19 pandemic and dissemination of “Do’s and Don’ts” including social distancing, wearing masks and importance of vaccination.

​The residents were also sensitized on adherence to the guidelines of Covid-19 to restrict the community spread of the pandemic, the Assam Rifles said.
