RIMS halts Covid-19 diagnosis

Imphal: As the biosafety cabinet of virus research and diagnostic laboratory (VRDL) of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has stopped functioning the laboratory will not be processing any samples for Covid-19 diagnosis.

This was stated by principal Investigator, VRDL, RIMS, professor Kh. Sulocahana Devi in a circular on Monday.

The biosafety cabinet stopped functioning on Sunday.

“As a precautionary measure for the laboratory personnel ano in view towards minimising the risk of contamination of the laboratory, the VRDL, RIMS will not be processing any samples for Covid-19 diagnosis, ” Sulocahana said in the circular.

The circular advises all concerned not to collect samples as the VRDL, RIMS will not be receiving samples sent for RT-PCR Covid-19 until further notice.

The laboratory at RIMS is one of the two main centres in the state for conducting RT-PCR tests and it can conduct around 400 RT-PCR tests in a day.
