Imphal: In a major breakthrough against illegal extortion in Manipur, Churachandpur Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (East) busted an extortion racket by apprehending two active cadres of United Kuki Liberation Army (Military Council), a newly formed non SoO group, from general area Songpi, Churachandpur district in Manipur on Wednesday.
Based on specific intelligence about presence of UKLA(MC) cadres involved in extortion activities in general area Songpi, Churachandpur, security forces, in a well planned and swiftly executed operation, apprehended two active UKLA (MC) cadres and recovered one printed and signed demand letter being used for illegal extortion alongwith 11 SP Tablets (drugs), the Assam Rifles said.
The apprehended cadres were identified as self-styled finance secretary Letjakai Touthang, resident of Janglenphai village and self styled home secretary Sominhao Touthang, resident of Jangnomphai village of Churachandpur district, it said.
The apprehended cadres along with recovered items have been handed over to Churachandpur Police station for further investigation.
