Dominic Lumon and priests from Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board, All Manipur Christian Organisation, Jamiat-Ul-Ulema, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board, Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak, Giani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Shree Digambar Jain Samaj and Kabui Poupei Chapriak Fom prayed to the Almighty for healing and protection of the State and the world from Covid-19.

The prayer programme began with a one-minute silence in remembrance of all those who have died due to the pandemic.

Biren said the total number of deaths in the state is now over 800 and the number of active cases has also already crossed 9000 mark. As such, he said, he felt the necessity of an interfaith prayer for all religions as it would bring unity and oneness amongst different communities to jointly fight the pandemic with spiritual strength.

Stating that the high number of daily positive cases was due to increase in testing capacity, Biren informed that 8000 to 9000 samples are tested daily and the positivity rate has reduced to around 8 percent while mortality rate is also steadily coming down.

Regarding the unwanted incident that happened a few days back in the ICU ward of JNIMS hospital, Biren said such misunderstanding between hospital staff and patient parties happen sometimes even during normal days. However, the matter is being investigated so that such incidents do not recur in future, he added.

“It gives me immense pleasure to have the religious leaders of all the communities at a joint prayer session at Kangla Western Gate today,” Biren writes on his Facebook wall.

“Coming together unitedly, each religious leader prayed for the almighty’s divine intervention and blessings to relieve us from the hardships of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.
