Narcotic trafficking racket busted, opium seeds worth Rs 47.50 crore recovered

Imphal: ​Assam Rifles troops under the aegis of IGAR (South) busted a major narcotics trafficking racket in Tengnoupal, Manipur on Tuesday.

​Based on intelligence inputs, troops of Assam Rifles and Territorial Army launched an operation on Monday near the Indo-Myanmar border to intercept a consignment of drugs being brought from across.

​Around midnight, the troops intercepted two modified Shaktiman vehicles plying in the area and recovered nearly 8000 kg of opium seeds worth over Rs 47.50 crore.

​Two smugglers driving the vehicles were apprehended and betelnuts worth Rs 7.20 Lakh was also seized from the trucks.

The smugglers and the contraband items were handed over to the police authorities for further legal action.
