Imphal: Member of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Deben Achoibam urged state government to provide monetary assistance to the elderly persons and widows as monthly pension.
A total of 420 persons were given monthly pension including both elderly persons and widows. The monthly pension has been distributing on 10th of every month, Deben said.
He was speaking to media over a video clip on the sideline of distribution of monthly pension to the elderly persons and widows of Lamlai Assembly Constituency on Friday.
Deben said the monetary assistance as monthly pension has been distributing from his own expenses in memory of his late mother, Achoibam ongbi Ibemhal Devi.
For the last 3 years and 11 months he has been distributing monetary assistance as monthly pension with an amount of Rs 400 and Rs 200 to each widows and elderly persons respectively of the Constituency.
He said about 75 percent of the total population of Lamlai Assembly Constituency is illiterate while he urged the state government to provide monetary assistance as monthly pension for elderly persons and widows.
