One apprehended in connection with AMSU blast

Imphal: A combined team of Imphal West district commando apprehended one active cadre of a proscribed underground group in connection with the recent bomb blast at All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) head office, Imphal.

He has been remanded for five days police custody.

The person was identified as Huidrom Ajit alias Langdai, 45, son of H. Sarat of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai, Imphal West.

Police says he was picked up from his residence on Saturday at about 5.30 am for verification in connection with the bomb blast at AMSU head office located on the DM University campus occurred on Tuesday at about 7.30 pm.

Ajit disclosed police that he joined the underground group in 2010 through one Umakanta of the group and got his basic military training in 2010 batch number 37 and his army number is 2342.

Ajit was also arrested earlier in the year 2015 and was out on bail. He is presently working under the command of one organization secretary major, Nongdon of the proscribed underground group, police said.

He admitted that under the instruction of his commander he went to AMSU office in the month of March and threatened the AMSU office bearers and advisors not to hold election for new office bearers of AMSU. He also threatened that if the the election is hold AMSU will face consequences, it added.

Ajit was produced before the duty magistrate, Imphal West and remanded till June 17 for investigation.
