Cross border smuggling foiled


Imphal: ​Chandel Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling of contraband items in Chandel District on Sunday.

Based on specific intelligence from reliable sources, troops of Assam Rifles launched an operation on 13 June near Indo Myanmar Border to intercept contraband items being smuggled from across.

The troops intercepted two vehicles near Angbreshu village and recovered contraband items worth approximately Rs 1.21 crore, the Assam Rifles said.

The recovered items along with vehicles and the apprehended smugglers have been handed over to customs department for further investigation.
