Imphal: Chandel Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(South) foiled smuggling of teak wood in Moltuk, Chandel district on Monday.
The Assam Rifles troops, based on credible input from reliable sources, launched an operation in which a vehicle carrying teak wood was intercepted.
On thorough checking of the vehicle, smuggled timber worth Rs 29.68 lakh was recovered, the Assam Rifles said on Tuesday.
The apprehended smuggler and vehicle along with timber have been handed over to police and district forest office, Tengnoupal for further action, it added.
