Manipur to give Rs 1.2 crore to gold winners from state in Tokyo Olympics

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Monday announced that a cash reward of Rs 1.2 crore will be given to sportspersons from the state who win gold medal in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

The state government will give a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for silver medal winners and Rs 75 lakhs for bronze medal winners.

The chief minister made such announcement during the launching of Selfie Point to cheer Indian Olympic contingents in a solemn function held at his secretariat.

“The government would provide a cash incentive of Rs 25 lakh to all the five participants who are representing the country in Tokyo Olympics,” Biren said.

Expressing confidence that the state athletes would win medals for the country, he wished success to all the five athletes on behalf of the people of Manipur.

Youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip, CAF and PD minister Th. Satyabrata, PDA chairman T. Robindro Singh, MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba and MLA Karam Shyam among others were also present during the function.
