Imphal: Chandel battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling of food-grade poppy seeds near New Songyang village in Chandel district.
Based on credible input from reliable sources, troops of Assam Rifles launched an operation which led to apprehension of two smugglers and recovery of 500 kg of edible poppy seeds worth Rs 1.35 lakh.
The apprehended smugglers along with the recovered items were handed over to Customs office, Pallel for further legal action, the Assam Rifles said on Sunday.
