Pugilist Mary Kom, hockey skipper Manpreet Singh to be India’s flag bearers in Tokyo Olympics

Imphal: Manipur’s Mary Kom, six times world women boxing champ and Manpreet Singh, the men’s hockey team skipper, will bear India’s flag-bearers at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.

This was announced by Indian Olympic Association on Monday.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia, silver medallist at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships, will be the flag-bearer at the closing ceremony on August 8.

The contingent to Tokyo Olympics comprises 56 percent male and 44 percent female athletes.

The Tokyo Games are scheduled to open on July 23. Five sportspersons from Manipur will compete in Tokyo.
