Assam Rifles foils cross border smuggling

Imphal: Kakching battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled a smuggling attempt in Kakching district on Tuesday.

Based on specific intelligence, the troops of Assam Rifles launched an operation which led to apprehension of four smugglers along with recovery of Godzilla coils and WIN cigarettes worth Rs 42.60 lakh.

The apprehended smugglers and seized contraband items were handed over to custom department, Pallel for further legal action.

Aid to snake bite victim

Khoupum Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) extended life saving medical assistance to a snake bite victim of Oinam village, Bishnupur district, Manipur on Wednesday.

A 26 year old male was bitten by a venomous snake on 07 July and was rushed by villagers to N Khunou Company Operating Base of Assam Rifles.

The Assam Rifles medical centre immediately rendered life saving medical care to the patient and stabilized his condition.

Mahotsav in poppy cultivation belt

Loktak battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised a Van Mahotsav in the erstwhile poppy cultivation belt of Dampi Ridge in Churachandpur District on Wednesday.

With an aim to help and guide the villagers and youths in moving on from poppy cultivation, and to find an alternate means of livelihood, troops of Assam Rifles with villagers jointly planted saplings of various types of trees on the occasion.

The tree plantation was organised in collaboration with locals of adjoining villages of Sarangphai and Dampi.
