Cross border smuggling foiled

Imphal: Moreh Battalion under the aegis of IGAR(S) foiled cross border smuggling of contraband items in Moreh on Thursday.

During routine patrolling along the Indo-Myanmar border, the troops observed movement of suspicious individuals on two wheelers. On seeing the security forces, the suspected smugglers escaped back in to Myanmar leaving behind several bags in the area.

On thorough checking of the bags, the troops recovered imported goods including liquor, hand bags, shoes, toys and apparels. The cost of the contraband seized is assessed to be Rs 20.39 lakh, the Assam Rifles said.

The seized contraband was handed over to Customs for further necessary legal action.
