Easy availability of illegal Covid-19 testing kits hinders in controlling the pandemic: ACOAM-Lup

Imphal: Easy availability of illegal Covid-19 testing kits in various pharmacies is becoming a major factor on failure to control the pandemic in Manipur, says All Club Organisation, Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup), Kangleipak.

In a press statement issued by joint secretary ACOAM-Lup Th. Baleswar said during the visit of a central expert team, additional DDG and EMR director Dr L. Swasticharan in the state it was informed that the state government would take immediate strict action against anyone who are found with illegal selling of Covid-19 testing kits.

It questioned to the state government that whether selling of illegal testing kits by diagnostic whole sellers, pharmacies and medical stockist is punishable under state disaster management Act, 2005?

Pharmacies and some stockist are selling illegal Covid-19 testing kits without the approval of ICMR for personal use, it said.

On the other hand, state government under the initiatives of chief minister N. Biren Singh has been taking necessary measures by providing free testing kits and free vaccination. The state government had imposed months long curfew or intensified restriction in the state due to the prevailing situation of the pandemic, however there is no change in the rate of positivity and mortality due to Covid-19, it added.

It questioned how the unprofessional public use Rapid Antigen Test kit stating that there is high chance of showing false result due to unfamiliar of testing and due to the reasons, there is high chances of spread of the virus.

With the failure of reporting Covid-19 positive result to the state government, the data on Covid-19 could be inappropriate, it said.

It also mentioned that where the individual who tested positive will disposed the testing kits and that could also be a major factor for spread of the virus.
