Old widows, widowers suffers the most in pandemic

Imphal: People over 60 years of age especially widows and widowers are suffering the most amid the pandemic on financial and health issues.

Co-opted member of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Achoibam Deben said this on Sunday.

He was speaking during distribution of pension to the person above 60 years who failed to get the benefit of government’s pension of Lamlai Assembly Constituency.

The distribution of pension has been organising every month in the name of Deben’s mother Achoibam ongbi Ibemhal.

The state government has been taking various initiatives giving prior to Covid vaccination. However, the government fails to monitor for the persons who do not have to take care and to monitor them who are needed financial assistance for sole bread. The authority concerned and state government should take necessary steps for them at the earliest, Deben said.

Lamlai Block Congress Committee has also been taking necessary measures for the people of Lamlai Constituency who are suffering due to pandemic.

A sum of Rs 200 each to persons of 60 years and above and Rs 400 each to the widows were distributed to a total of 420 beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries were from Lamlai, Challou, Napet, Pungdongbam and Uyungmakhong.
