Total curfew for 10 days to begin on Sunday

Imphal: Manipur government has declared to clamp ten days Total Curfew from Sunday in wake of wide prevalence of Covid-19 Delta variant in the state.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh appeals the people to abide by the government’s measures against the pandemic.

The present Covid crisis is in critical condition despite of active efforts of the government. The second wave has hit hard in state with records of fresh cases of above 1000 per day in these few days. The death cases has been at the range of 14-16. Manipur is a less populated with about 28 lakh. We ourselves can only save lives from the contagion, Biren said.

Government has taken up whatever possible measures including increasing number of health care workers, taking up mass vaccination campaigns, mass testing etc. Even so the situation has aggravated as if it is out of control, he added.

“Let’s stand firm together as least for 10 days to protect from Covid,” Biren said.

He appeals the people not to swarm in at markets ahead of total curfew which would increase spread of the contagion instead of controlling it.

A government order issued on Thursday night said the decision of clamping the curfew was taken as there is need to take stringent measures to break the chain of transmission.

It said only essential activities related to vaccination, Covid testing, medical services, water supply, power supply, telecom/internet services, air travel and agricultural activities would be allowed.

The chief minister appeals the people to avoid people gatherings and also appeals the Muslim brethren to avoid gathering in this Eid festival.
