Vehicle lifter falls in police hand, 7 vehicles recovered

Imphal: Imphal West Police of Manipur nabbed a vehicle lifter of a gang network and recovered eight vehicles from Lilong, Thoubal.

The recovered vehicles included a white Bolero Jeep (MN01X-0434), a red Honda Activa scooter (MN01AD-8807) and a black Alto K-19 car (WB20AG-3284) used in stealing the jeep and the scooter.

The arrest of the thief and recovery of the vehicles were made acting on two theft cases registered at Imphal City Police station of the jeep and the scooter which were found stolen on July 16 in front of BJP head office, Nityaipat Chuthek, here.

In the course of police investigation various CCTV footages were collected in and around Imphal area, analysed and intelligence were collected from various sources. From the CCTV footage, it was revealed that the unknown accused persons used the black Alto car during the time of stealing the jeep and the scooter, Imphal West superintendent of police Dr S. Ibomcha told reporters.

On Monday a combined team of Imphal West Police commando and four teams of Thoubal Police commando under the overall lbomcha raided a location at Lilong Eshing Kaipham (Taret Labuk) near Lilong Awang Leikal Idiga and arrested one of the accused persons identified as Yurnkhaibamn Moshin, 19, alias Md. Moshin alias Ningthem, son of Y. Noorjaman of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikal and seized two Alto cars. One of the car was a silver Alto Car without registration number and the other one was the car used during lifting of the jeep and the scooter.

The black Alto K-10 car belongs to one of the accused persons Md. Ashiqur alias Atomba, 21, son of Md. Alauddin of Lilong Awang Leikai near Eshing Kaipham.

From the instance of Mohsin, the stolen Bolero Jeep (which registration number was found replaced by AS-01BE/5197), one Gypsy jeep bearing registration number MNO3A-1110 and one steel colour Alto car bearing registration number MN04A/1029 were recovered and seized from the residence of Md. Asgar Ali, 38, son of late Md. Nasib Ali of Lilong Awang Leikai Shambukhong who is said to be the mastermind of the two crimes as revealed by Moshin, the senior police officer said.

From the disclosure of Moshin, the scooter was also recovered. Another Alto Silver Colour bearing registration number MN01S/3368 was also seized.

Mohsin is a habitual offender of such crimes and he was previously arrested in connection with two vehicle theft cases, a murder case and was an accused of a hit and run case, Ibomcha said.

Some extra keys of vehicles and other tools suspected to be used in vehicle thefts were also recovered, he added.

The other two accused persons Asgar Ali (teacher of district council), who is said to be the master mind of the two crimes and Ashiqur are evading arrest, the superintendent of police said.
