Mobile vaccination drive at 3 de-addiction centres

Imphal: Ya_All under the aegis of DC, Imphal West and SDC (central), Imphal West, Rishikanta, conducted a one-day mobile vaccination programme held at three centres of Imphal West district on Wednesday.

It was organised with the motive not to left out the inmates of de-addiction centres and rehabilitation centres due to the fear of social discrimination from getting vaccination.

The mobile vaccination drive was conducted at ‘The Overcomers’ located at Lamphel near Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lamphel, ‘Ray of hope’ of Langol Laimanai and ‘Bedrock of recovery’ of Langol.

Founder of Ya_All, Sadam Hanjabam said the mobile vaccination drive is conducted with the motives to cover full vaccination of every population. Most of the inmates staying at rehabilitation centres and de-addiction centres have a fear of social discrimination if they are allowed to go at vaccination centres. Due to the reason most of the inmates failed to get the Covid-19 vaccination, though the vaccination drive had been continuing since February, he added.

Sadam said similar vaccination drive was also conducted at Imphal East DC complex which was exclusively for LGBTQ and person living with HIV who have similar fear of getting social discrimination.

He appealed the government to conduct a special drive for such population so that no persons are left out during mass Covid-19 vaccination for a Covid free state.

A total of about 100 inmates were vaccinated.

President of ‘The Overcomers’, Sagolsem Herojit said one of the main reasons the inmates are not getting vaccination is they hardly have proper identification document in order to get the vaccine apart from the fear of social stigma.

He said most of the inmates do not have proper identification document due to careless with the impact of frequent using abusive substances. Though the inmates wanted to get the vaccine but due to lack of identification documents, most of them are still not getting the vaccine, he added.

He appealed the government to take necessary steps to cover all the inmates and other drug users for the vaccination.
