Gold smuggler nabbed with gold worth Rs 1.33 crore

Imphal: Tengnoupal battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled cross-border smuggling of gold at Khudengthabi on Wednesday.

During routine checking at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi, a suspicious individual traveling on a two-wheeler was stopped, the Assam Riflessaidon Thursday.

On thorough checking of the two-wheeler, 16 concealed gold biscuits weighing 2.66 kg were recovered. The gold biscuits seized were assessed to be worth Rs 1.33 crore, it added.

The apprehended smuggler and contraband were handed over to Customs department at Moreh, it said.
