Imphal: Kakching battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) foiled smuggling of Win cigarettes and beetle nuts in Kakching district on Saturday.
Based on intelligence inputs, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted six vehicles with 13 persons moving on Kakching – Shalluk road, the Assam Rifles said.
On thorough checking of the vehicles, nearly 79 boxes of Win cigarettes and 37 bags of beetle nuts were seized from the vehicles. The cost of the contraband seized is worth approx Rs 87.32 lakh, the Assam Rifles said.
Apprehended smugglers and recovered items have been handed over to Customs department, Pallel for further legal proceedings, it added
