Win cigarette, betel nut smuggling foiled

Imphal: ​Kakching battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled cross-border smuggling of contraband near Chairel Lamkhai on Thursday.

​During routine checking at Vehicle Check Post, troops of Assam Rifles recovered 300 packets of Win cigarettes and 420 kg of betel from a vehicle.The cost of the recovered items is estimated to be worth Rs 7.17 Lakh, the Assam Rifles said.

​The apprehended smugglers and contraband items have been handed over to Customs department, Pallel for further investigation.
