Rs 5 crore worth drug recovered in Manipur

Imphal: Officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit of Customs Division, lmphal, on Tuesday seized 50,000 Amphetarnine tablets weighing approximately 5 Kg from a smuggler at Kakching Lamkhai.

The smuggler was identified as Shonkhongam Mate, 31 years, son of HL Khalkholun Mate, resident of Tengnoupal Bazar.

The anti-smuggling team intercepted Shonkhongam carrying blue colour cement bag labelled “Dulux Polvputty- at Kakching Lamkhai.

On searching the cement bag, the officers found three brown colour packets labelled “3030 Export Quality” and two black colour packets and recovered 50,000 Amphetarnine tablets weighing approximately 5 Kg from the packets, superintendent, A/S P. Roben Singh said.

A case has been registered and Shonkhongam Mate, has been arrested under relevant section of the NDPS Act, 1985. The value of the seized contraband drugs is estimated to be around Rs 5 crore, he added.

Further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the case is going on, the senior officer said.
