9 Manipur high schools upgraded to higher secondary level

Imphal: In order to tackle the problem of admission of cent percent Matric passed out students the education schools department has upgraded nine government high schools to higher secondary schools.

The schools were Kasom Khullen High School, Praja High School, Khonghampat High School, Kamjong High School, Urup High School, Oinam Government Girl’s High School, Siribon High School, Wabgai High School and New Tusom Frontier High School.

This was declared in an order issued by the education department on Friday.

The order said there are 59 Higher Secondary Schools as compared to 363 High Schools in the state and the recently declared High School Leaving Certificate Examinations, 2021 have registered a 100 percent pass percentage.

Due to the prevailing Covid -19 situation In the country, parents/ guardians are still apprehensive of sending their wards to other states for higher studies and there is a felt need for establishment of more higher secondary schools in the state In order to provide admission avenue to students who have cleared the High School leaving Certificate Examinations, 2021 conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur or its equivalent, it added.

Up-gradation of some of the existing high schools to higher secondary schools is being actively considered by the state government;

In cognizance of the pressing need to provide admission to students to higher studies in the government schools in the state and to allay the fear and uncertainty among the students and parents over inability to get admission in higher classes and in anticipation of a goverment decision in this regard, the education department ordered that nine high schools in the Spstate are up-graded to higher secondary schools with effect from Academic session 2021-22.

Services of senior most lecturers in the existing schools is allowed to be utilized as principal and vice-principal In these schools along with utilization of the services of qualified graduate teachers of the department wherever required, in their respective grade pay and without any extra remuneration, the order said.

The up-gradation is issued with the approval of the competent authority and subject to post-facto approval of the state Cabinet, it added.
