Imphal: Khoupum battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) in a joint operation with Manipur Police apprehended two active insurgents of proscribed group ZUF (J) from Nunggang village in Kangpokpi district on Friday.
The Assam Rifles troops along with Manipur Police, based on specific input, launched an operation which led to the apprehension of Gaijuanlung Kamai alias Azona Kamai, self-styled home secretary of ZUF (J) along with one active insurgent and recovered one 12 Bore Rifle, 20 Lathode rounds, 172 blank rounds of 7.62 mm and other war like stores, the Assam Rifles said on Saturday.
The apprehended insurgents along with recovered items were handed over to Keithalmanbi Police station for further investigation, it added.
