Manipur government urges Centre to handover Athuan murder case to NIA

Imphal: Chief minister N. Biren Singh said the state government has asked the Centre to hand over the murder case of Athuan Abonmai to National Investigation Agency (NIA).

“Understanding people’s sentiment and seriousness of the case, the state government had written to the authority concerned of the central government twice to hand over the case to NIA,” Biren told reporters on Wednesday.

A copy of the FIR of the case had also been attached in the last letter, the chief minister said.

He said he would also talk to Union home minister Amit Shah regarding the matter during his Delhi visit.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai has imposed 24 hours statewide total shutdown to Sunday midnight till Monday midnight demanding justice t Athuan Abonmai.

The JAC says it has been observing the manner of dealing of the state government with confidence regarding the incident of abduction and subsequent barbaric and brutal killing of Athuan Abonmai, former President, Zeliangrong Baudi on September 22, but the state government under chief minister N. Biren Singh has been seemingly shielding the culprits instead of giving the culprits befitting punishment.
