Police take up security measures in Imphal ahead of VP visit


Imphal: Manipur Police on Saturday morning conducted cordon and search operation at different areas of Imphal West ahead of Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to Manipur.

The Vice-President’s visit would be a part of his tour to the North East region. The state government would identify the developmental projects which would be inaugurated by the Vice-President in consultation with his office, chief minister N. Biren Singh said.

As a part of security measures ahead of the VVIP visit a team of district police commando assisted by Singjamei police conducted search operation at Ningombam area from 6.30 am to 8.30am. During the operation around 65 houses were searched and around 160 individuals were verified.

Another police team assisted by Lamphel Police also conducted similar operation at Tera Khamnam Leirak and Moirang Hanuba leirak from 6.30am to 8.30 am. During the operation around 100 houses were searched and around 150 individuals were verified including six bailouts.

A third poice team led by officer-in-charge, commando, Imphal West, conducted similar operation at bazaar area, Jalal crossing from 7.50am to 8.20am. In the operation around 55 individuals were verified.

No individuals were detained during the operation. The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of superintendent of police, Imphal West, Dr S. Ibomcha.

Venkaiah Naidu is likely to visit Manipur on Tuesday.
