NIT Manipur convocation held

Imphal: The eighth convocation ceremony of the NIT (National Institute of Technology) Manipur was held on Tuesday at NIT Manipur, Langol, Imphal.

Chairman’s Gold Medal was awarded to Avichal Srivastava, Department of Computer Science and Engineering who stands first securing the highest marks among all the students of the batch receiving B. Tech degree. Gold medals for branch toppers, one each of the branches of engineering to the student who ranks first, obtaining the highest marks in his/ her discipline in bachelor of technology degree were awarded to Roshan Loitongbam for Civil Engineering, Lal Krishna Pal for Mechanical Engineering, Himanshu Singh for Electronics and Communication and Shailesh Prajapati for Electrical Engineering.

Union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr R. K. Ranjan Singh congratulated the young graduates and expressed his desire to students for more emphasis to green technology and green energy for free energy deficiency future. Green technology application will monitor, model and conserve the natural environment and resources and also to club the negative impacts of human involvement. He told that with the implementation of National Education Policy 2020, NIT Manipur will achieve more as skilling is compulsory right from class VI. Present period is transition phase for science and technology. Ranjan added.

While presenting report, hairperson of the senate and the Director of the NIT Manipur Prof. Goutam Sutradhar said as per NIRF Ranking for 2021 the NIT Manipur has been ranked 114th among the technical institutes in the country. The institute has been approved as one of the Quality Improvement Programme (Minor), a centre for Faculty Development Programme by AICTE. During this Covid-19 pandemic, students of NIT Manipur had adjusted to the new system of online learning and self-learning and he also highlighted number of activities and programmes taking up by the institute.

NIT Manipur was started in 2010. NITs were declared institutes of national importance by an act of parliament in 2012. The institute which initially started with just three Under Graduate Programme in the temporary campus located in Polytechnic campus, Takyel has grown into a full-fledged institute offering Under Graduate, Post graduates and PHD programmes in various streams at Langol, Imphal.
