144 CrPC for 2 months in Andro


Imphal: Following the violent clash that erupted at Yairipok Yambem between the supporters of two intending candidates of Andro Assembly constituency on Monday morning that injured three persons Imphal East district magistrate issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC 1973 for two months with effect from Tuesday.

Aftermath of the said incident and the prevailing situation of the area has become volatile. Such incident may cause serious breach of peace and disturbances of the public tranquillity and thereby, endanger human lives and properties in the areas of Yambem Makha Leikai, Yambem Mayai Leikai and Yambem Mathak Leikai, the prohibitory order said.

It said such disturbance of the public tranquillity, breach of peace, and endangerment of human life and property are sought to be prevent; and Whereas, it is considered that restriction on assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and prohibition on carrying of firearms, sticks, stones, weapons or objects of any description which can be used as offensive weapons would be effective in preventing such disturbances as described above.

The district magistrate, Imphal East in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section 2 of Section 144 of Cr. PC, 1973, imposed the prohibition for a period of two months with effect from 6 am of Monday.

The order is not applied to the government agencies or functionaries involved in the enforcement of law and
order, the order said.
