‘Assam Rifles thwarts sabotage attempt by insurgents’

Imphal: ​Sajik Tampak Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled an attempt by the insurgents to stage an attack by detecting and destroying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Chapkikarong sub-division of Chandel, Manipur on Wednesday.

During a routine patrolling, the troops of Assam Rifles observed some suspicious wires protruding out of ground at a road junction leading towards Border Pillars 51 and 52. This road is used extensively by civilians to ply their vehicles for farming, te Assam Rifles said in a statement released on Thursday.

On immediate search the troops detected an IED. After sanitisation of the area, the detected IED was destroyed on the spot itself for ensuring security in the region and prevention of any loss to life or property, it added.
