CM Biren greets Manipur people on Mera Houchongba

Imphal: “Let us together reaffirm our unyielding commitment to maintain unity and harmony among our different communities,” Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said in his ‘warm’ greetings and ‘best’ wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Mera Houchongba which falls on Wednesday.

The festival is celebrated annually on the full-moon day of the month of Mera in Manipuri lunar calendar since time immemorial. It promotes a sense of brotherhood, peace, solidarity and unity among vanous indigenous communities living in the state. The festival also has its relevance in re-affirming the close bond and ties between hill and valley people in the state, Biren said.

It also marks the solidarity among different ethnic groups in Manipur and symbolises our belief in the principle of pluralism and co-existence, he added.
