Detained horses confirmed as Thouroughbred


Imphal: The nine horses that have been detained at Tengnoupal police station were brought to Imphal by veterinary officials and after verification they are confirmed as not Manipuri ponies ‘thoroughbred’ horses which were recently bought from Pune.

State veterinary and animal husbandry director Ch. Nandakishore said the horses are kept separately at Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Lamphel.

Veterinary experts have verified that the horses are not Manipuri pony breed, he said.

‘Thoroughbred’ is a kind of horse breed that are commonly used in horse racing and they are known for their agility, speed ad spirit.

The department was planning to keep the horses at Marjing pony complex but due to lack of some infrastructure as the horse are to be kept separately, the horses are shifted to Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Lamphel, the director said.

He said as the horses are brought from outside the state they will be quarantined for 5-6 days as per protocol to monitor their health condition with proper care.

During verification of the documents of the horses, the owner has proper documents however till the end of the case the horses will be kept at the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Lamphel, he added.

The horses will be handed over to the owner when the case is closed, he said.
