Guv raises concern over Covid-19 vaccination, Swacch Bharat mission

Imphal: Manipur governor La Ganesan raised serious concerns over two important issues–Covid-19 vaccination and Swacch Bharat mission amongst others, on his maiden visit to Churachandpur.

The governor urged the people to utilise the opportunity for vaccination against Coronavirus and continue the Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.

He praised about Manipuris’ excellence in the field of sports and culture.

Addressing a gathering of district level officers, representatives of CSOs and village chiefs of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts at mini-secretariat multipurpose hall here, Ganesan said due to the prompt action of the government, the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic will be overcome very soon. “We may not be able to eliminate the dreaded disease, but prevent it because of precaution,” he said.

He appealed to all sections of the society to get vaccinated against Covid-19. He said vaccination is not limited to any person or place, but the responsibility of every citizen to keep themselves as well as their families, relatives and friends to make themselves Covid-free in the real sense. He also cited scriptures underlining the importance of maintaining health which is a must for all round prosperity.

Saying that one important component of Swachh Bharat mission is elimination of open defecation, the governor expressed satisfaction at the performance of the state to make the campaign a success in large part of the state.

Ganesan was also confident that the collective efforts of all irrespective of caste, creed and religion would uphold the meaning of Swachh Bharat campaign.

Also lauding the excellence of the state in sports and culture, he urged the children and youngsters to get engaged in sports activities which also helps in maintaining good health. “I am happy to be the governor of Manipur which has many representatives in the olympics.”

Do remember your past, history has so many things to teach you. History has taught you ways and means of living. Learn from the past and adapt to the changes in the present that you may grow in the future, he quipped.

The government of India has initiated schemes like Van Dhan Yojana, Vikas Yojana under tribal affairs ministry to improve income through value addition of products wherein one can display skills and abilities and converted into income, he highlighted. The government at the Centre and state will do whatever to help its people, he said and assured to apprise the concerned authority in the state to develop the new district and others regarding infrastructure and other deficits.

This was his second visit to hill districts after Chandel. The governor also interacted with civil society organisations’ leaders, beneficiaries of government schemes, and honoured next of kin of martyred soldiers and officers from the district.

Deputy commissioner of Churachandpur Pawan Yadav, superintendent of police Shivanand Surve and divisional forest officer Esther L Serto made power-point presentation on various aspects of Churachandpur district while deputy commissioner of Pherzawl Joseph Pauline made similar presentation for Pherzawl district.

Presentation of colourful and mesmerising cultural items by different cultural troupes also marked the programme.
