‘Issue of temple construction at Palace compound solved’

Imphal: Chief minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday visited Shri Shri Govindaji Temple to take stock of various matters of the temple.

The issue of Pandit Loishang has been solved. The board members as well as the top priests have agreed to continue dialogue and resolve the matter at earliest, the chief minister said.

He met the members of Shri Shri Govindaji Temple Board wherein he was apprised about the recent ‘unfortunate’ incident that had happened in the temple premises.

The board members as well as the top priests have agreed to continue dialogue and resolve the matter at earliest, Biren said.

A meeting with the members of Pandit Loishang at their office in Palace compound was held.

After a thorough discussion, it was agreed that the unfortunate incident happened due to certain misunderstandings. All the parties involved have agreed to continue dialogue and resolve the matter at earliest, Biren said.

“We won’t allow the peace and harmony to be disturbed by some misunderstanding,” he added.

Tension gripped here at Palace Compound on Sunday as Pandit Loishang members disrupted construction of a building inside the claimed premises of Pandit Loishang.

The Pandit Loishang has been opposing the temple construction for a long time and a case regarding it is still pending in the Court.

Pandit Loishang has been protesting against any sort of construction inside the premises of the Loishang as it has been a sacred place for Meitei religion.

One of the member of Pandit Loishang had earlier expressed earlier that construction of temples that are not related to the Pandit Loishang and the indigenous religion is an attempt to tarnish the Meitei religion.

Biren said he also met the members of Shri Shri Govindaji Temple Board wherein he was apprised about the recent unfortunate incident that had happened in the temple premises.
