New Covid-19 variant detected, maintain strict SOP during election campaign: Biren

Imphal: New mutant form (AY 4.2) of the corona virus has been detected in the state of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said and appealed to maintain strict SOP during election campaigns.

As precautionary measures the state government has intensified monitoring of people coming in the state. Checking and monitoring of health has been increased at Bir Tikendrajit International airport, Mao gate and Jiribam, Biren told reporters on Wednesday.

Manipur on this day reported two Covid-19 related deaths, 70 new positive cases and 97 recoveries.

The death cases were from Imphal East and Imphal West.

“Out of 2 deaths, 1 person had co-morbidities, 1 person had 1st dose of Covid vaccine and 1 person had not vaccinated,” Manipur Covid-19 common control room said.

With this the cumulative number of deaths in the state was 1917.

The new positive cases belonged to Imphal East (20), Imphal West (3(), Thoubal (2), Rishoopoo (3), Kakching (3), Ulthrul (3), Chandel (I ), Churachandpur (4), Kamjong (1), CAPF (1) and Kangpokpi (1).

The cumulative number of recovered cases is 1,20,712. The number of active cases is 844. The recovery rate is 97.76 percent, the control room said.

The cumulative vaccine doses administered till Tuesday was1915974 ( 1st dose of 1244261 and 2nd dose of 671713).
