‘AY.4.2 Covid-19 delta variant not detected in Manipur’


Imphal: No cases of new Covid-19 delta variant, AY.4.2, which is more contagious, has not been detected in Manipur, state health director K. Rajo said on Thursday.

The state health department is well prepared to fight Covid-19 if the new variant is detected in the state, Rajo said.

The situation of Covid-19 pandemic in the state is getting better, however, it is yet to be recovered completely, Rajo said.

People should not neglect the guidelines of Covid-19 appropriate behaviour with the coming of festive season and state Assembly election while the season changes.

The number of positive cases in the state has been decreased, mortality count has encountered to zero, seven times, he said.

Health experts are presuming that in the third wave of the pandemic, the virus may attack children mostly. Vaccine for children above 2 years and below 18 years of age is under procurement stage and will be produced soon, he added.

With full vaccination, a person can be protected 97-98 percent against severe impact, the director said.
